My hair is… a catastrophe!
Before we went on lockdown… My typical hair routine included visiting my Locktitian at least once a month for a full treatment which included a thorough wash, scalp basing, locking and styling my dreadlocks. I’m a cool and funky sistah who likes trying out new things and quirky hairstyles as they speak volumes about my character 😁. However, I have a signature hairstyle that never fails me when I’m uncertain about a hairstyle and it’s called the “Loc Petals”…My Locktitian, Mike calls it “The Nonku” 😂🤣
My hair routine has changed now… Ever since the lockdown and I’ve had no desire to DIY and treat my scalp or style my hair cos ku tricky ku wowuuuuuuuuu… I’ve been contemplating to wash my hair and have had zero strength. I would really appreciate styled locs at this juncture cos my hair is unruly.
The challenge with my hair is… growth… My hair grows quickly and becomes untidy when the roots start to show. Hence, I always have it styled. Unfortunately due to this unprecedented times there is nothing much that can be done.
My lockdown hairstyle is… Buns… Whether it’s one bun or two, it is definitely the lockdown hairstyle for me. It’s quick and easy to maintain when my hair needs to breathe. Otherwise I’m in a Mmalestatsi head wrap or beanie when I don’t feel like exposing my hair.
Top tip(s) anyone with your hair type can use to keep hair healthy and strong this winter? Locs require lots of love during the winter season. Regular washes and scalp treatment is essential. Condition your locs on a regular basis to combat dry hair. Moisturize, don’t skimp on the moisturizing oils by going light. Heavy oils like extra virgin olive oil work wonder on dry dreadlocks. Eat lots of lean meats, fresh fruits, and fresh vegetables, as this will stimulate your dreadlocks, allowing them to grow faster. Cover Up, cold wind tends to make hair dry and crunchy. I wear a beanie or doek to prevent the moisture from escaping out through the fabric.
My favourite ORS product to use is the… ORS Jojoba Oil or Hair Fertilizer
