Ntswaki Malebo’s #LoveYourBodySeries Story

How has your the relationship with your body been like? My relationship with my body was pretty much existent throughout my childhood and teen years. All I knew was I had “beautiful thick legs that would fit nicely in boots” as mama and my aunts would say. I later found out that boots and shoes that tie around the ankle don’t fit. Stranger instilled fear hore how much bigger will my legs be when I’m pregnant.

What made you not appreciate your body when you were younger? I think growing up with boys didn’t allow me luxury to attach any emotion towards my body. I did though hate my shoe size. I’ve been wearing size eight since grade nine. My height also bothered me a bit. You wont believe hore its still taboo that woman wear size eight or bigger. I felt like I was in grade nine all over again ka 2019. It had been awhile since I heard such narrow minded comments. .

When did you start fully loving your body? When I discovered leggings (hahaha) and things where popping. I say this because I’ve never owned a pair of jeans that fit my thighs, booty, and waist proper. Maybe I don’t shop in the right places. Anyway I have fully ACCEPTED my body for how it is, now I am constantly working on self rediscovery from the inside out.

Looking back, what would you say to your younger self about showing self-love to your body? My younger cousin is experiencing the same challenges as I did. I tell her to be kind and less judgemental on her body because it wont change but her attitude towards it can. And that she has beautiful features that make us who we are. She gets. This feels as good as talking to my young self.

What advise would you give someone who needs a little motivation to loving their bodies? A garden full of roses is beautiful right?! But a garden with a variety of flowers is absolutely breathtaking. Breath, absorb the Sun and Bloom.

What’s your most favourite part of of your body? Why? My bottle legs, because ke futsitse. Hape they complement big booty, big hair, big personality. I’m a gentle giant and I love every part of me.
