Whether you call it a head wrap, tuku or a turban, over the years the “doek” as it is famously known in South Africa; has been used for years as a symbol of power, fashion and religion amongst many women all over the world. The upcoming byMaletsatsi Wrap Party Picnics events for 2019 are happening on the 30th of November (Joburg, Gauteng) and 28th of December (Phuthaditjhaba, Free State) at secret locations to be revealed by the brand in their respective event months.
The byMaletsatsi Wrap Party Picnics started in 2016 as an initiative movement for the founder to get up-close-and-personal with the members of her blog community as well as the growing supportive clientele – all passionately called the “byMaletsatsi Tribe”. “byMaletsatsi is a concept born from my passion for celebrating women. With this concept, I also wanted to inspire women who are still exploring and searching for themselves as I am myself. The ultimate goal here is to have my fellow sisters join me in my quest and also share their experiences – while rocking my doeks akere” says Selloane Maletsatsi Moleli, founder of the byMaletsatsi brand.
This year, the latest 5th edition of the event series happened on Women’s Month (10 August 2019) where Maletsatsi also invited fellow female lead entrepreneurs to showcase their SME businesses while socializing with the tribe. Brands involved included Dear Bella, uLove Intimates, Inspired Fitness, Just Trimmings and Alma B Collections. The event was attended by over 35 tribe members where the first 10 arrivals enjoyed goodie bags with a byMaletsatsi doek, hair product from brand friends Sta-Sof-Fro and ORS Hair Care as well as vouchers from uLove Intimates and Inspired Fitness.
The November event will be celebrated after the socially claimed National Head Wrap Day which happens annually on the 20th of November – a day where women from all over the world are encouraged and invited to join the movement by wearing head wraps (or doeks) on the day and share selfies of their favourite styles on social media using hashtags #NationalHeadWrapDay and #NHWD. Dear Bella will be joining the event again in support of Maletsatsi’s vision to empower women and young girls. Dear Bella helps in providing access to affordable sanitary pads to young girls helping them become active and productive citizens.
