Lerato Moleko’s #LoveYourBodySeries Story

How has your the relationship with your body been like? I have was always been in love with my body. There’s always something about being “curvy” that I love and sometimes hate; the manner in which my clothes fit me, the stares and turning of heads in some occasions. Getting frustrated when clothes no longer fit, I sometimes wonder if I have a love-hate relationship with my body.

What made you not appreciate your body when you were younger? Not being able or allowed to wear certain clothes and being told “ha o tshoane le di thaka tsa hao” or you aren’t fit. Being of a different size from my friends and classmates always made me feel somehow, which led to me not appreciating my body.

When did you start fully loving your body? I started back in varsity, 2015 was a whole vibe. Curves were embraced by everyone; magazines, guys and women started loving their boldness and that rubbed off me. I would look at how people my size were loving themselves and I did that too. Curves make people happy.

Looking back, what would you say to your younger self about showing self-love to your body? The only opinion that matters is your own. We are all of different shapes and sizes, and beating yourself up for being different to someone else will not make you any better.

What advise would you give someone who needs a little motivation to loving their bodies? Appreciate your flaws and uniqueness, as they are the cherry on top. Love your body and it will love you back.

What’s your most favourite part of of your body? Why? My thighs, because thick thighs save lives 😂😂😂.
